New hub - choices...

I'm looking at replacing my rear hub for one of the following contenders. Any thoughts & comments would be most welcome :-)

Prolite Evolution Pro - £55

Proper - £65 (but not in that gay colour)

Odyssey - £70-75

They all weigh about the same, but I was also maybe thinking of going with a 13t freewheel set-up with something like a coalition mini-thread rear...?

Do your worst!

  1. I might be able to pull a few northern strings and get a propper one cheaper than retail. Also, theres a nearly new oddy one on Ebay that might stay cheap.

Further to that, if I get myself a 36h mini profile cassette (which Im thinking about) I will have a 48h ss for sale

  2. Thanks Al, if you can have a feel for a price on the Proper that would be appreciated ;-)

I don't really want to by one off Ebay...

I've never been into Profile stuff as firstly it is prohibitively expensive & secondly I have never been that keen on how stuff looks! is their stuff really worth the price outlay???

What are your thoughts on the freewheel route dude?

  3. Be tempted to go for the oddyssey one dude. I heard bad things about the proper ones liking to not work. "Blow up" were the actual words used, I think. On t'other hand, I know sully swears by em (possibly cos he gets em cheap as...) and mooner runs their stuff, so who knows?

Now there's a useful post if ever I saw one!

  5. I had also heard that propper hubs tended to blow up but I think they have had some more input into the design and they are good now.
